As the old saying goes, “It’s Business before Pleasure.” But inherent in the definition of a tourist is pleasure, so when does a business traveler, by definition, become a tourist? It would seem that the connection is too close to call.
According to the Africa Group, world tourism is estimated to be worth US $1,986 bn. Of that, who knows, perhaps 15% is business tourism. Eurostat, for instance projected that, “on average over the year, business trips represented around 15 % of all trips made by EU residents.” So what is business tourism?
